Excerpt from the Thaw Catalog: This contemporary tour de force of pictorial quill tufting on the lid of an expertly made birch bark box is the largest known example of this type to date. The maker, Rose Williams (Kimewon), is a resident of Wikwemikong, Ontario. Rose Kimewon claims she originated the porcupine tufting technique among the Ottawa and Ojibwa of Manitoulin Island, where a notable revival of quilled birch bark box making has been going on since the post-Second-World-War period.
