Description:
"Trying to Back Out" is a sketch done in preparation for "Ringing the Pig." The scene depicted in Ringing the Pig is an accurate representation of putting a ring in a pig’s nose to keep it from digging under fences. Mount achieved strikingly realistic poses and gestures, particularly in the face of the pig in the background at the right. This painting also evokes sound, as one can clearly imagine the high-pitched squeal of the pig.
