Description:
J.O.J. Frost received little public recognition during his lifetime, but today his marine paintings are appreciated as vibrant works that combine his folk aesthetic with a profound knowledge of local history. As an elderly man, Frost painted the memories of his youth and the extensive history of his native town, Marblehead, Massachusetts. In this painting, he depicts the topography of Peaches Point shortly after European settlement but before any major changes. The current business district is located at "Marblehead to Be." On the point marked "Fort" is Fort Sewall. Built in 1742 and still standing today, the Fort played an important role in Marblehead's history.
