Description:
This heddle, a device used in the loom-woven beadworking process, has two extremely stylized underwater panthers symmetrically framing its upper edge. The circle in the top center marks the division between the panthers’ heads. Their elongated bodies run the length of the upper edge and the graduated semi-circles indicate their legs. Their tails hang down the sides of the heddle and reach the wavy carving at the bottom edge, alluding to the watery depths where the panthers reside.
