The Mimbres, the first ancient Southwest people to adopt agriculture, produced exceptional painted pottery at the turn of the first millennium (1000-1150 A.D.). Engaging scenes from the Mimbres world were realistically rendered, recording both daily life and mythology. On this bowl, a well-fed bird cranes its neck in search of food.
