Perhaps the result of a particular shaman’s vision this copper and ivory rattle is the only one of its kind. The form of the oystercatcher rattle has been imitated by a copper body with a carved ivory amulet forming the head and beak shape. The ivory amulet was probably once part of a full necklace used by a shaman, indicating that it has been adapted from a previous use to complete the rattle.
