Kiowa women beaded lavishly decorated cradles for expectant daughters and nieces as well as granddaughters and grandnieces. These cradles were greatly cherished and passed on from one generation to the next. Babies spent much of their time safely secured within their cradles. The large bold abstract beaded designs may have been inspired by the stylized floral patterns done by neighboring tribes.
