Vest, ca. 1890-1910 Teton Sioux (Lakota), North or South Dakota Hide, glass beads On the back of this vest a Sioux warrior and a U.S Army officer meet and acknowledge their allegiance by touching war lance to flag. The Sioux warrior is highly decorated with an eagle warbonnet and eagle feathers attached to his war lance and his war horse’s tail. He seems to be wearing a vest very much like the one on which this scene is portrayed. The letters “W.U.B.N.” across the shoulders are the initials of the original owner.
