Excerpt from the Thaw Catalog: The double-sided drum, decorated on both sides of the rawhide, has extraordinary beautiful painting. One side shows a threatening yellow sky full of swallows, heralding the coming of a large black Thunderbird in front of black clouds and throwing forth lightning. In the clouds are two red birds, lightning shooting from their eyes. Down on the earth a man offers a long pipe to the Thunderbird. Centered on the other side is a white star with red center, surrounded by a radiating yellow light against a dark-blue background studded with white dots. In all likelihood, these dots overtly refer to the stars of the night sky but can also be perceived as a Chahiksichahiks (Pawnee) depiction of the hail associated with thunderstorms.
