Victor Salvatore cast this model for reproductions of his larger than life-size statue of James Fenimore Cooper in Cooper Grounds, near the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The dedication of the statue was celebrated in 1940, the Sesquicentennial of Cooper’s 1790 arrival in Cooperstown when he was just one year old. Victor Salvatore was a sculptor, painter, and teacher who lived in New York City and in Springfield Center, a village north of Cooperstown on Otsego Lake. He also made the statue of the Sandlot Kid, located next to Key Bank on Main Street in Cooperstown.
